Penipe, Producers from the Penipe canton, affected by the heavy rains a few days ago, received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), supplies of corn cane silage, as a nutritional supplement to cover the nutritional needs of cattle.

A total of 5,040 kg of silage, from the Strategic Reserve of Conserved Forage of the Chimborazo District Directorate, were delivered to the communities of Ganshi (El Altar Parish), El Guzo (La Matriz Parish), Pungal and Playa del Tingo (Puela Parish).

Aid actions in these sectors are coordinated in coordination with the Municipal Government of the Penipe canton. The silage delivered will serve to feed 336 animals for a week, due to the impact on crops and pastures due to overflowing rivers and landslides caused by heavy rains on June 16.

Juan Pablo Villalba, president of the Ganshi Community, expressed his gratitude for the support with silage that will benefit more than 60 heads of cattle in the sector, due to the lack of grass.

Silage is the conservation of forage or grass, through fermentation without oxygen, humidity, pollution and sunlight, which allows food to be available for livestock in times of scarcity and is an important nutritional supplement for the development and production of animals.

“This support is extremely important at this time, because we need and it gives me a little peace of mind because I already have food for my animals,” said Georgina Rodríguez, from the Puela parish.

Through parish technicians, the MAG collects information on impacts, provides technical assistance to affected producers, and will continue to identify sectors that require this input for subsequent deliveries.

The provision of silage is part of the response measures of the MAG through Table No.6 of the cantonal COE, to protect the health of the animals, in these adverse cases caused by nature.
