As early as next year, the unified public transport ticket could be introduced in the Pieriga part /

The introduction of the single ticket could take place as a pilot project.

Initially, it will be implemented as a pilot project for a year to evaluate the results and the interest of the citizens.

It is expected to be used by around 50,000 passengers every month.

The project will operate in the A zone of trains mainly in Riga, as well as in the direction of Babīte, Dārziņi, Baloži, Vecākai, Jugla.

The price of the joint ticket will be 2 euros – 1.5 euros for a 90-minute time ticket in “Rīgas satiksme” vehicles and 0.5 euros for a day ticket in the train.

In order to implement this project, the process for coordination in the Cabinet of Ministers must be started.

The Chairman of the Riga Planning Region Development Council and Riga Vice Mayor Edvards Ratnieks (NA/LRA) positively assessed the progress of the implementation of unified public transport in Riga and Pieriga. “This is a good example of the cooperation of all parties and levels, and we see significant progress in the process for the unified public transport ticket to start operating next year,” said Ratnieks.

Ratnieks and the leaders of the municipalities of Pieriga indicated that it is important to start work on the next stage – the expansion of the system to the whole of Pieriga, in order to achieve the goal – to promote the transfer of the residents of Pieriga from private vehicles to public transport when going to Riga, as well as for the residents of Riga when going, for example, to work in Pieriga.

The principle of the single ticket will allow you to easily transfer from one type of vehicle to another within Riga and Pieriga with one ticket. This would mean that the residents of Pierīga would be more motivated to go to Riga, not using private vehicles and thus reducing the traffic flow. At the same time, both the Riga City Council and the state are aware that such a principle will mean greater co-financing.
