(ANSA) – VENICE, SEPTEMBER 27 – “When research is funded, as was done for example with HIV, therapies are found and people are treated. In order to develop new drugs and new perspectives for the treatment of diseases neurodegenerative diseases, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, much more funding is needed.” The professor said it. Pierluigi Nicotera, director of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Bonn, speaking in Venice at a seminar on the Future of Life Sciences, promoted by the Villa Salus Foundation and San Camillo Irccs.
The meeting took stock of research and treatments on neurodegenerative diseases, which are increasing in the population thanks above all to the increase in life expectancy.
“With the increase in average age – explained Nicotera – neurodegenerative diseases increasingly affect the population, we do not have therapies that modify the course of the disease, and therefore naturally there is great suffering among patients, especially women families who have to look after them.”
