Voluntary return of 195 Senegalese migrants from Libya

Dakar – A total of 195 Senegalese migrants, who were stranded in Libya, returned to Senegal on Thursday as part of the voluntary return assistance program launched by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This voluntary return process aims to put an end to a situation of distress for many compatriots and reflects the commitment of the Senegalese authorities to ensure their reintegration, said the Secretary of State in charge of Senegalese abroad, Amadou Chérif Diouf. , quoted by the Senegalese press agency (APS).

Welcoming these repatriated migrants aboard a plane chartered by the Senegalese authorities, Mr. Diouf indicated that this voluntary return reflects the constant efforts of his department to facilitate the return of Senegalese in difficult situations abroad.

“Thanks to the hard work of our team and with the support of the IOM, we were able to bring back 195 migrants, all Senegalese. I came to bring a message of hope to these young people: Senegal needs all its children ”, he said, referring to the difficult conditions encountered by these migrants in Libya, where many families were undocumented because of the conflict.

According to the latest return and reintegration report, the International Organization for Migration has helped more than 70,000 migrants return home voluntarily.
