French President Emmanuel Macron met with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

The statement noted that the French President “reiterated his deep concern about the course of the Iranian nuclear program,” and called on Iran to “fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency to work toward reaching a diplomatic solution in this regard.”
In his speech before the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran is ready to resume work on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear agreement) if the parties to this agreement adhere to it.
On the other hand, Macron demanded that his Iranian counterpart release “without delay” the three Frenchmen “who have been detained in Iranian prisons for two years,” stressing that their freedom is “a basic condition for any improvement in bilateral relations with France.”
