Five new deans of the faculties of the University of Latvia have been selected /

Four of them performed the duties of dean of the faculty until now. The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences will continue to be headed by Jānis Priede, the Faculty of Law – Edvīns Danovskis, the Faculty of Humanities – Dace Balode, and the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology – Linda Daniela.

On the other hand, Kristaps Jaudzems was appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences.

The Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technologies is the only one of the six faculties that is still without a dean. Zaiga Krišjāne will continue to perform the duties of the dean of the faculty.

It has already been reported that the new LU consolidation model envisages reducing the number of faculties from 13 to six.

The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences consists of the former Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Institute of Biology, Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine, Institute of Cardiology and Regenerative Medicine.

The Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technologies, on the other hand, consists of the Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry, Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, Institute of Chemical Physics, Institute of Astronomy, Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy, Institute of Mechanics of Materials, Institute of Physics, Interdisciplinary Education Innovation center, Natural Resources Research Center.

In turn, the Faculty of Social Sciences was merged with the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics, creating the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Humanities are united in the Faculty of Humanities.

The new faculty model also includes the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology and the Faculty of Law. They have no structural changes.
