According to the Global Security Report published by the Gallup consultancy, El Salvador is one of the safest countries, surpassing Switzerland and Lexemburg.
According to the report, it stands out that around 88% of Salvadorans feel safe when traveling their streets; the Central American country has even surpassed Ecuador or Colombia in terms of safety.
“Currently, El Salvador has one of the lowest homicide rates in the Western Hemisphere.”” the report details.
During the government of Nayib Bukele, several security measures were implemented for El Salvador, where many countries in the world have classified these actions as radical, however, these contributions have given a drastic change in the country’s security and even gang crime. Bukele has implemented maximum security prison systems to combat crime in his country, and nearly 80,000 people have been arrested for crimes related to drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, murder and terrorism.
In the same way, starting this yearthe Salvadoran president has proposed a reform plan known as the “Zero Leisure Plan” where he has put prisoners to work on public works with the argument that they should “repair the damage” what they have done to society.

The initiatives of “mega prisons” and forced labor, have been harshly criticized by other nations, however, the majority of the Salvadoran people and people from other countries have applauded the president’s reforms to improve the quality of life in their country.
