Casablanca: Opening of the exhibition of archaeological fossils returned to Morocco at the Sidi Abderrahmane archaeological space

This exhibition features a collection of important fossils, including a crocodile skull recovered from the United States dating back 56 million years, specimens of trilobites and shark teeth recovered from Chile dating back approximately 500 million years. years, and a fossil representing a species of crocodilian recovered from Germany dating back about 200 million years.

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, underlined that, within the framework of several agreements signed with friendly countries, notably the United States, Chile and Germany, fossils of scientific, historical and cultural importance were recovered, indicating that these fossils are exhibited in the Sidi Abderrahmane archaeological space to educate citizens and visitors about the ancient and rich history of the Kingdom of Morocco.

He also affirmed that the ministry works in coordination with Moroccan researchers and archaeologists to bring the concepts of ecological spaces closer to citizens, by animating these spaces to attract the attention of young people and rising generations and introduce them to this rich area which highlights the antiquity and history of the Kingdom, specifying that this will begin with the city of Casablanca before extending to other archaeological sites and spaces in other regions of the country.

In a statement to the press, Nabilla Rmili, president of the Council of the Municipality of Casablanca, indicated that this ceremony is part of a partnership between the Municipality of Casablanca and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and of Communication, mainly aiming to strengthen the cultural scene of the city, noting that this archaeological space constitutes added value for the inhabitants of Casablanca, allowing them to discover up close the ancient history of the city of Casablanca in particular, and of the Morocco in general, through the exposed fossils.

For his part, the director of the National Institute of Archeology and Heritage Sciences (INSAP), Abdeljalil Bouzouggar stressed that the inauguration of this exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the return and restitution of several bones of animals that had been illegally exported to Germany, the United States and Chile, adding that these recovered fossils are very important because they include a collection of extinct animals, such as types of dinosaurs, crocodiles and some sea creatures .

Furthermore, he mentioned that the site of Sidi Abderrahmane, which hosts this exhibition, is an important archaeological site not only for the ancient history of the city of Casablanca, but also for the history of Morocco and South Africa. North.

The inauguration ceremony, which notably saw the presence of the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Morocco, the ambassador of Chile in Morocco, the secretary general of the Wilaya of the Casablanca-Settat region, as well as of several personalities from the political, artistic and cultural world, was marked by the launch of a light drone show, as part of the “Nostalgia – Emotions of yesteryear” event launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in several cities.

The archaeological site of Sidi Abderrahmane in Casablanca will host these impressive light shows until July 21 aimed at reviving heritage and history in a new and innovative way.

It should be noted that Casablanca is the fifth city to host the “Nostalgia – Émotions d’antan” shows after Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier and Chefchaouen.
