The brilliant actor Javed Jaffrey, who is seen in a negative role in Bhuvan Bam’s web series ‘Taaja Khabar Season 2’, is once again in the news. Javed, who makes fans laugh with his comedy, will now be seen on screen in his scary avatar. He has spoken openly about his career and OTT experience.
Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey has spent a long time in the film industry. He has also been very popular on TV. These days he is in the news for his web series ‘Taaja Khabar Season 2’ on OTT. Recently, in a conversation with Navbharat Times, he answered questions about his career, his innings on OTT, his life as an artist as well as his personal life.You have been winning everyone’s hearts through comedy for a long time. In such a situation, when you entered a new world, there was a different kind of experience of OTT, how was that experience?
One good thing that has happened with OTT is that they carry it around in their pockets. Someone is roaming in a bus, someone is in a train, so people can see it anywhere. You don’t get to see this thing on TV and films. This is a big advantage of OTT. Secondly, like our series, you can watch it together in two and a half hours. Haven’t even made a very long series. In films it is always the case that if there was some more time they would have shown it, but in OTT you are able to do justice to the artists as per the time. So it was a lot of fun working on OTT also.

You keep visiting Delhi, so is there any story related to the capital that you would like to share?
I remember an incident of a shooting in Delhi. Shooting was going on. When a shoot takes place on the road, there is a crowd. Production people are also there, so they tell people to step back a little. Now he is two inches behind. After some time the director says angrily that remove them, this is coming on the screen. So the production people again tell him to step back, brother. So they were four inches behind instead of two. In such a situation, the team had to speak to him again and again. So a person says in Delhi style, ‘Hey, how much more should we step back, should we leave Delhi alone?’ (laughs) So I remember this incident.
You have done many types of characters till now. Is there anything that you feel remains to be done?
For an artist, there is a desire to do something till death. The day that desire ends, the artist also dies. If people have wishes and prayers then we will do something new.

You danced in the film ‘Meri Jung’. Tell us something about your dance in that film?
There was a time when I did not know where I was going and where I was going. I didn’t know what I wanted to be. When I got the offer I took it. I got that offer only because of dance. When I went there, the choreographer at that time was Saroj ji. He called all the dancers of the industry and asked them to see this boy. He said, show me what you do. I proved it to them. They were very graceful people. It did not occur to them that if we are big choreographers then what will this child teach us? So he chose my good steps and said that we will use it. Then molded it into choreography. The way Subhash Ghai Saheb showed him on screen was amazing. People said that all this will not work, simple dance is needed, which people can do themselves. I said that this is what I know. So the first generation of songs that you see today started with songs like that.
Your series ‘Taaja Khabar Season 2’ is very much discussed. Tell us something about this series?The rest of the casting of ‘Taaja Khabar 2’ had already been done, but I was approached for my role much later. I had not seen the first season of ‘Taaja Khabar’ at that time, had only seen the trailer. I liked it but for some reason I couldn’t watch the season. When I watched the first season I really liked it. I especially liked the work of Bhuvan Bam. I had seen them earlier in short video format. He has a very good connection with the youth.
