(ANSA) – LOTZORAI, SEPTEMBER 28 – The first phosphate-free goat’s cheese in the world comes from Ogliastra, precisely from Lotzorai, making it a suitable food, therefore, also for people suffering from kidney failure. It is produced on the island by the mini dairy of the Pistis Brothers, led by Carlo who recently triumphed at the Green Sardinia Oscars in the category: “The growing company”.
The “Frip” cheese was born from the collaboration with the dairy technician, Bastianino Piredda and started from the project of the Milan Polyclinic carried out by an idea of Dr. Gianluigi Ardissino, pediatrician and nephrologist who has been dealing with newborns suffering from kidney diseases for 30 years who cannot give up milk, take the food with the additional integration of an odorless and tasteless food supplement which does not alter the taste of milk, making it easily accepted by the child, calcium carbonate. The project has thus come to fruition in Campania , first with cow’s milk and now also in Sardinia with sheep’s milk in the Riu company of Villanova Monteleone and subsequently with goat’s milk at the Pistis mini dairy.
Frip goat cheese is a cheese enriched with calcium and low in sodium, developed to be compatible with the dietary needs of patients with renal failure. The project has demonstrated, through clinical studies, a reduction of phosphorus in the blood by approximately 15%, thus offering a safe and healthy alternative for those suffering from this pathology. Thanks to this product, many consumers who love goat’s cheese, but have kidney problems and are forced to follow a dairy-free diet, will be able to eat these cheeses. FRIP cheeses do not solve all the nutritional problems of patients with renal failure but they have the advantage of replacing the “prohibition” with an alternative product proposal.

“The processing of the product is totally the same as that of the classic cheese, but with the addition of calcium carbonate which breaks down phosphorus and also lowers sodium levels” – observes Carlo Pistis – We have found great interest in our product and they are getting there many requests from all over the country and from Sardinia even after the victory at the Green Oscars”.
