Vitória SC, together with hundreds of fans from Guimarães, traveled to Rio Maior to face Casa Pia in the seventh round of the Liga Portugal Betclic. The people from Guimarães were looking for a reaction after the defeat against FC Porto, although the caspianos they wanted to continue the good results.

Rui Borges’ team started even better, «pressed and bossy», but it was the home team who were on top in the first half. Cassiano opened the scoring and guaranteed his team’s advantage on the way to the locker room. In the second half, the “conquerors” came in again and again very early. Until the end, balance reigned.

Once upon a time…

A Vitória even started the game better, with more balls and forced the home team to retreat on the field, but as the clock accumulated minutes, the people from Guimarães let the geese dream.

With less ball, but more goals, Casa Pia forced Bruno Varela and his defense to be more alert to the quick transitions of the home men.

After the 38th minute, and after a corner kick, Casa Pia scored. Kluivert – the best on the pitch – appeared to be alone in control of the ball and, in a desperate attempt to correct the marking error, Alberto fouled out. Cassiano was called for the punishment and he did not hesitate.

Vitória fans tried to push the team, but the task was not easy. WITH an advantage on the scoreboard, João Pereira’s team comfortably “managed” the result until the end of the first 45 minutes.

Victory, victory… history is bound

The deficit on the scoreboard sounded the alarm and the Guimarães came back for the second half of the game. It took four minutes for the outsiders to leave the locker room until they reached parity on the scoreboard. A free kick taken by Tiago Silva and Joao Goulart – in conjunction with Nelson Oliveira – resulted in the scoring in the wrong goal.

Os caspianos They tried to respond to the “conquering” entry of the Victorians – who at one point seemed to be playing at home -, but the mission of those led by João Pereira was quite complicated.

The home team’s response came in the 63rd minute. Great pass from Kraev finding Geraldes open on the right. The Portuguese winger raised his head and made a millimeter cross for Cassiano who was heading towards the heart of the Guimarães area. The problem? The thing is, a wall appeared between the striker and the other nets. Great save by Bruno Varela to prevent a certain goal.

In the last 20 minutes of the game, both teams were winning with more heart than one, and the game started to lose its character. The changes made by the two coaches had no effect, and the game lost «movement».

Until the end, the only highlight was Pablo Roberto’s move close to the final whistle and when Tomás Handel made a basic cut to earn a point for Vitória.
