After the completion of the liberation, the two young people were placed in an ICRC vehicle to another area of the region to take them to a safe area.
“Our work has a strictly humanitarian purpose of reducing the effects of armed conflicts and violence. The role we play in liberties is focused on doing everything possible so that people detained by armed groups can regain contact with their loved ones. This helps to reduce the suffering and uncertainty that families experience in these types of situations. The ICRC will continue to offer good offices to act as a neutral intermediary in humanitarian affairs,” said Juan Carlos Carrera, head of the ICRC’s mission in Cali.
The ICRC reminds all parties to armed conflicts of the need and importance of respecting and following international humanitarian law (IHL), which primarily protects civilians and those who have ceased to participate in hostilities.
