The Ministry of Culture launches the first national archaeological map

This is a collection of archaeological sites known or already published according to data provided by the National Institute of Archeology and Heritage Sciences and the Directorate of Cultural Heritage, indicates the ministry in a press release.

The map currently includes a series of sites already published in the regions of Dakhla, Essaouira, Casablanca, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Asilah and Oriental, specifies the press release, noting that it will soon include archaeological sites in the regions of Tan Tan, Zagora, Tamanart, Rehamna and Béni Mellal-Khénifra.

In collaboration with the ANCFCC, regional atlases are being produced and will allow the establishment of tourist plans which take into consideration cultural heritage including archaeological, according to the same source.

This is a major project in Moroccan archeology and requires regular updates as discoveries are made, prospecting operations and inventories respective to each region, explains the press release, noting that this map which will be continually enriched by new data currently being published, is an important document which will make it possible to have a national archaeological map for the first time.

The archaeological map is a scientific document which contributes to better understanding this part of the national heritage and will be made available to researchers and students.
