After the floods and landslides that occurred last weekend in 13 provinces of the country, due to the strong winter storm, the Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES), Zaida Rovira, ordered the immediate activation of the technical teams of this portfolio of State, in order to provide timely attention to the families that were affected. In addition, a total of 2,569 kits with humanitarian aid are expected to be delivered, including clothing, non-perishable food, hygiene, biosecurity and other supplies, benefiting 1,929 people.

One of the most affected provinces was Tungurahua, Minister Rovira, together with several authorities from other State portfolios, toured ground zero and visited the affected families of the Ulba parish, where a landslide was recorded that left human losses and several material damage. In this sector, 91 kits with humanitarian aid have already been delivered and a delivery of 850 more kits is planned.

In addition, the MIES technical team, in coordination with the National Secretariat for Risk Management, tours the affected area to gather information and evaluate the possibility of an immediate delivery of the contingency bonus for people affected by natural disasters.

The head of the MIES pointed out that in compliance with the provision given by President Daniel Noboa, several State institutions were activated urgently and immediately to provide timely and comprehensive care to all the families that were affected. “We have activated the entire contingent of the National Government to assist the victims,” he added.

The highest authority of this State portfolio also toured the Penipe canton, in the province of Chimborazo, where he confirmed the damage caused by the rising of the Chambo River and later moved to the Palitahua community, to visit the families affected by the rising of the Puela River.

On the other hand, in the province of Napo, the MIES technical team assists the families that were affected by the flood and overflow of the Gallo de Peña and San José streams, in the Sardinas parish, and the floods that were recorded in the parish. Oyacachi, both in the El Chaco canton.

In Sardinas, 42 kits with humanitarian aid were delivered, while in Oyacachi, 200 kits were delivered and the delivery of 1,378 more kits is planned for the affected people in the coming days.

Institutional aid also reached the province of Azuay, where eight kits were delivered to families that were affected by the landslide that occurred in the Palmas de Jordán sector, in the Sevilla de Oro canton.
