While it insisted on its position on the bombing and vowed to “punish the criminals,” it confirmed that it expects Baghdad to adhere to the security agreement. concluded between the two countries and the Arab League is using its efforts to stop the Israeli regime’s attacks on Gaza.

Last Tuesday, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the League condemns the Iranian attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan and stands in solidarity with the measures taken by the Iraqi government to preserve the sovereignty and security of its country.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denounced the recent statement of the Arab League foreign ministers and rejected its content. He said that the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran are based on the legal right to combat terrorism, as the attack was launched against elements “associated with the Israeli regime in Erbil, Iraq, which jeopardizes national security.” Iran and the safety of its citizens are at risk.”

Al-Kanaani indicated that Iran will not hesitate to deter these elements and punish the criminals, while stressing that Tehran expects Baghdad to adhere to the security agreement concluded between the two countries and implement its content in full, and for the Arab League to use its efforts to stop the Israeli regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and to end the occupation of Palestine that has been ongoing since 75 years old.

Iraq had submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council regarding Iran’s “aggression” after the attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan, while Iraqi Defense Minister Thabet Al-Abbasi said that the security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran may be suspended.

The Arab League had adopted a draft resolution in which it strongly condemned the Iranian bombing of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which resulted in the killing of a number of innocent citizens and the destruction of a number of civilian sites, and considered the attack “a blatant aggression against the sovereignty of Iraq and the security of the Iraqi people and a grave violation of the principles of good neighborliness.” and international laws, conventions and norms.”

The resolution also condemned “all justifications and pretexts given by the Iranian government, which do not give any country the right to violate the sovereignty of another country and endanger the lives of its citizens in contravention of the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

The resolution held Iran accountable for all the consequences of this violation and its results, and considered it a dangerous precedent whose repetition could completely disrupt peace and security in the region.

On Tuesday evening, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had carried out air strikes on the city of Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, in the area of the American consulate, the embassy headquarters, and the international airport, destroying the bases of anti-Iranian terrorist groups.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard explained in a statement that it fired a series of ballistic missiles at one of the main headquarters of the Israeli foreign intelligence service, Mossad, in Iraqi Kurdistan, which led to its destruction. According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the headquarters was a center for developing special operations and planning terrorist attacks in the Middle East, especially in Iran.

A few days before that, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called on the Shiite “resistance front” in various Arab countries to “strike the enemy” wherever he is. The attacks on Erbil came as a response to the terrorist attack that occurred on January 3 in the city of Kerman, southeastern Iran, when 89 people were killed in explosions that occurred during a funeral procession on the fourth anniversary of the death of General Qassem Soleimani.

The Iraqi authorities said that they consider the attacks, which killed 4 people and injured 6 others, an aggression against the country’s sovereignty and security, and that they are ready to take legal measures, including submitting a complaint to the UN Security Council. In particular, the famous Kurdish businessman Beshru Diziyi and members of his family were killed during the attack, while the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, called on the international community to put an end to Iranian attacks on the region.

In turn, the US State Department issued a statement condemning the missile attacks on Erbil, and affirmed Washington’s support for its Iraqi partner and the Government of Iraqi Kurdistan in the current situation. No American citizens were injured during the attacks, according to ABC Television.
