BOLZANO. “They were collected in Trentino Alto Adige 5,415 signatures, of which 75% online, equally distributed between the two autonomous Provinces”. This was announced by the promoters of the collection of signatures for the referendum to repeal the Calderoli law during a press conference held in Bolzano. The referendum was promoted by a vast array of social, political, associative and community forces civil society to say: “Yes to a united, free and just Italy”.

At a local level, the promoters of the initiative expressed satisfaction with the number of signatures collected, both online and in the streets, and with the fact that the Trentino Alto Adige region contributed to reaching the expected quorum. As explained by the promoters, in the province of Bolzano, the slogan ‘Stop the Calderoli law‘: “We live in an autonomy conceived in a certain way and as autonomists we see the problems of such a structured law. What is needed instead is a regionalism of solidarity that implements the fundamental principles of the Constitution and does not deny them in practice”. In the past few days the referendum committee delivered 1.3 million signatures to the Court of Cassation.

“Now the challenge – so the promoters – will be for citizens to go to the polls and participate in this important democratic instrument”. The promoters of the initiative then launched an appeal to continue the mobilization: “We need a major information, awareness and voter involvement campaign to go and vote when the referendum is called. In fact, we must prevent the Calderoli law from increasing inequalities and divisions in the country, undermine social and civil rights in our communities and put social cohesion at risk”, they concluded.
