Seven groups of Guatemalan students will represent Guatemala at the 2024 World Robotics Olympiad in Türkiye. What pride! Children and young people between 8 and 19 years old from more than 100 countries will participate in this international competition.

For three days, the city of Izmirin Türkiyewill be the stage where brilliant minds from more than 100 countries will meet for the International Final of the World Robotics Olympiad 2024 o World Robot Olympiad ―WRO―. This event, which will take place from November 28 to 30, hopes to welcome children and young innovators who will present their ingenious robotic creations.

Guatemala will be present with the participation of seven teams of students from various educational institutions, who managed to stand out by being crowned champions in the National Final of the World Robotics Olympiad. This event took place on August 31 at Irtra Petapa, where young people exhibited their creativity and technical skills in robotics.

The students who will travel to Türkiye, ranging in age from 8 to 19, are champions of national competitions. These talented students seek to obtain first place in four competitions: Robotics Mission, Robotics Sports, Future Innovators and Future Engineers. In these competitions, teams use their ingenuity to build robots capable of solving specific problems, some addressing topics related to the development of the robot and its capabilities, and others the search for solutions to real-life problems.

The event is organized by the World Robot Olympiad Associationa non-profit organization that seeks to develop the creativity and skills of young people to solve problems in a fun and attractive way through robotics. The first edition of the Olympiad was held in 2004 in Singapore, with the participation of 12 countries. By 2019, fifteen years later, the competition had grown significantly, with teams from 73 countries competing globally.

The teams that will represent Guatemala in Türkiye

The theme of the international final in Turkey is “Allies of the Earth”, which invites participants to reflect on the human impact on nature and how robots can contribute to a more balanced lifestyle.

They are the teams that obtained the first places in the national final and that will travel to Turkey to raise the name of Guatemala, demonstrating the talent of the chapines in this field:

Robotic Missions:

  • Rocabots of the Liceo Cristiano Roca de Ayuda – Senior Category
  • Jaguars 1 from Colegio Americano Sur – Elementary Category
  • APDE Solalto Robo Masters – Junior Category

Future Engineers:

  • MVP of Villa Real Atlántico School 1

Innovative Futures:

  • TERRY-LAB of the Capouilliez School – Senior Category
  • INNOVATECH AMS from Antigua Montessori – Junior Category
  • Robotic Minds from Villa Real Atlántico School – Elementary Category

Participation in the Continental Final in Puerto Rico

In addition to the competition in Türkiye, Guatemala will also be represented in the Continental Final that will take place in Puerto Rico from October 1 to 3. On this occasion, the second and third places in the national final will participate. The teams that will travel to Puerto Rico are:

  • Second Place: JEPS-G from the Villa Real Atlántico School 1
  • Third Place: Champions SC Chassis from the Sacred Heart Ladies School

Future Senior Innovators:

  • Second Place: TERRA-GUARDIAN from Capouilliez School
  • Third Place: Oppenheimer Vol. 2 from Colegio Villa Real Atlántico 1
  • Third Place: FutureForgeBSJ from Colegio Bilingüe San Juan

Future Junior Innovators:

  • Second Place: EagleTech from Liceo Cristiano Roca de Yuda
  • Third Place: CEC Fuente de Vida Automatic Irrigation System

Future Elementary Innovators:

  • Second Place: Roboculturists from the Villa Real Atlántico School
  • Third Place: CEC Fuente de Vida Smart Vacuum Cleaner

Senior Robotic Missions:

  • Second Place: Biscuit Master Builders from Colegio Bilingüe El Castaño
  • Third Place: Jaguars 3 from Colegio Americano del Sur

Elementary Robotic Missions:

  • Second Place: Dragons Academy del APDE Solalto
  • Third Place: Little Dragons from APDE Solalto

Junior Robotic Missions:

  • Second Place: Evo Hunter del APDE Solalto
  • Third Place: Dragon Bots from APDE Solalto
