The government has removed the councilors of 12 city corporations including Dhaka South-North. This decision was announced in a separate notification of the local government department on Thursday.
The city corporations are Dhaka North and South, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal, Narayanganj, Comilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.
Meanwhile, 323 municipal councilors were also removed in a separate notification.
On August 5, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell amid intense mass protests by students. Then on August 19, the mayors of the city corporation were removed. Later, the government appointed an administrator there.
Apart from the three hill districts, the remaining 61 Zilla Parishad members have also been removed. The chairmen of these district councils were also removed earlier. The government has also appointed administrators to run the district councils. And to continue the work of the district council, a committee of 13 members has been made under the leadership of the administrator.
A committee of 7 members is working under the leadership of the administrator in the municipality. Earlier, the local government department removed 493 upazila parishad chairmen. In all cases, the government has appointed administrators.
