During a large control operation on dozens of takeaway and home delivery restaurants in the industrial areas of Almere, almost fifty infringements were found. Among the most serious violations are two businesses without a license to sell alcohol, some places where people slept illegally and a dangerous electrical system, says OmroepFlevoland.

The inspections, which lasted three days, started on Tuesday in Almere-Stad and Haven, involving municipal officials, the police, the Dutch Food Safety Authority (NVWA), customs, the labor inspectorate and the environmental service. The infringements concern: blocked emergency exits, the presence of parasites, failure to comply with temperature regulations and unhygienic storage of food. In four restaurants poor general hygiene was found, and some did not have filters or grease separators.

The objective of these controls, writes the portal, is to combat crime, in particular money laundering, because restaurants of this type can be vulnerable due to financial pressure and cash transactions. Mayor Hein van der Loo said these inspections are essential to maintaining safety in the sector and in industrial areas.
