Cars and rocks washed away by rain cut off the upper part of Acapulco; request declaration of emergency

Las rains that don’t stop at Guerrero due to the effects of ‘John’caused that in the upper part of 13th Street in the Juan R. Escudero neighborhood of Acapulco was left incommunicado, because at least five cars, a truck and a motorcycle were swept away by the water currents.

The slide of large rocks impedes circulation on that street, so people have to walk or jump between the effects to be able to cross and reach the businesses in search of food and other products.

Neighbors said they are afraid that the rains will cause more rock slides and car washes that will worsen the damage caused by the storm, since that happened with the devastating category five Hurricane Otis last October.

They asked municipal and state authorities to come and free the street.

Abelina requests declaration of emergency

The mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López, asked the federal government to declare an emergency for the port, four days after the ravages of Hurricane ‘John’.

When leading the permanent session of the Municipal Civil Protection Council, he indicated that due to the disaster caused by the intense rain, the economic resources required to meet the needs have exceeded.
