An additional Climate Companion Card discount refund will be provided for young people aged 19 to 39. The city of Seoul announced on the 29th that it will accept post-refund applications for the Climate Companion Card youth discount from the 30th to the 28th of next month.

This refund is for young people who purchased the Climate Companion Card from February 26 to June 30 of this year, during the Climate Companion Card pilot project period, and used it without stopping or refunding. Applicants will be refunded 7,000 won per month, and if they spent the full 5 months of the pilot project period, they will receive 35,000 won back. The youth ticket for the Gifu Companion Card, which is an unlimited public transportation ticket, costs 55,000 won per month, which is 7,000 won cheaper than the regular ticket (62,000 won per month). For an additional 3,000 won, you can also use the public bicycle ‘Ttareungi’ unlimitedly.

The city of Seoul originally provided post-refund refunds to young people in July and August, but as many people were unable to apply, it decided to do so one more time. An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Government explained, “Out of the total of about 380,000 young users of the Climate Companion Card, about 190,000 received a refund in the summer,” and “about 90,000 people are eligible for an additional refund.” After this additional application period ends, you can no longer apply for a refund.

Refunds can be applied for on the T-Money Card & Pay website (pay.tmoney.co.kr). You must register your domestic account number, etc. in your name before 4 p.m. on the 28th of the next month. The refund amount will be deposited between November 18 and 22 after verification of the user’s age, etc.

The number of daily users of the Climate Companion Card, launched in January of this year, is approximately 600,000. Among them, it is analyzed that demand among young people is high, with the proportion of people in their 20s and 30s being estimated at around 50%. The Climate Companion Card operates in two forms: a mobile card that can be used as a smartphone T-money application (app) and a physical card that can be purchased at convenience stores or subway stations. Lee Jin-gu, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Policy Division, said, “We hope you enjoy the benefits provided by the Climate Companion Card, from youth discounts to cultural facility discounts.”
