Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson married Ramona Agruma on Saturday, September 28, in a destination ceremony in Sardinia, Italy, according to People.
The wedding marks a significant milestone in the life of the star known for her roles in films such as Pitch Perfect and The Year of My Graduation.
Wilson, 44, and Agruma, 40, publicly announced their relationship in June 2022. The couple chose the Italian island for their wedding, a significant location as it was where they enjoyed their first vacation together as a public couple.
Days after officially announcing their relationship on Instagram, Wilson shared a photo of both holding hands in the coastal town of Porto Cervo.
The ceremony took place in an intimate setting, surrounded by close friends and family. According to a source cited by the Daily Mail, Wilson was “really excited to marry the love of her life” and the wedding was described as “impressive and super romantic.”
The insider added that it would be “a small ceremony with close friends and family, and very elegant as well.”
The relationship between Wilson and Agruma, founder of the sustainable clothing brand Lemon Limon, started in 2021. The actress revealed in an interview with People that they were introduced by a friend and initially connected over the phone before meeting in person.
“It was a really good way to get to know each other,” Wilson explained at the time. “It was a bit old-fashioned in that sense, very romantic.”
The artist made her relationship public with a selfie of the couple on Instagram, accompanied by the text: “I thought I was looking for a Disney prince… but maybe what I really needed all along was a Disney princess.”
The couple announced their engagement on Valentine’s Day 2023. Rebel Wilson chose a fairytale setting for the proposal, kneeling in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland, California.
In that regard, she shared the news on Instagram, showing photographs of the moment and thanking Tiffany & Co. for the ring.
In her memoir Rebel Rising: A Memoir, published in April 2024, Wilson detailed how she planned the surprise proposal, describing the emotional moment when Agruma accepted with tears.
“Ramona sees the pastel rose petals all over the floor and the roses in vases,” she wrote. “I tell her how special she is to me. And then I kneel down and open the ring box.”
In November 2022, Rebel and Ramona welcomed their daughter Royce Lillian, born through surrogacy.
“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first daughter, Royce Lillian, born last week via surrogacy,” Wilson confirmed on Instagram at the time.
Since then, Ramona Agruma has been a solid support in raising the girl, who is now nearly two years old.
On the other hand, actress Rebel Wilson has been open about her struggles with fertility, revealing that she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and went through five rounds of in vitro fertilization before resorting to surrogacy.
“There are many things I have had to overcome in my life, but obviously, the end of the story is a very happy story because I’m engaged,” Wilson shared in a subsequent interview. “I went through five rounds of IVF to have her and it was worth every moment of that emotional rollercoaster.”
In her memoir, she also talked about her love life before meeting Agruma, describing herself as a “late bloomer in love”.
She revealed that she did not lose her virginity until she was 35 and that in 2019, she challenged herself to date 50 men to gain confidence in dating.
“I was a late bloomer in love, so dating was something I felt very, very shy about,” she shared in the book. “That’s why in 2019, when I was really single, I realized I needed to go on more dates.”
And she concluded candidly: “It’s absolutely amazing, if I had been born 20 years later, I probably would have explored my sexuality more.”
In addition to her personal life, Wilson’s career has also taken a significant turn with her directorial debut, The Deb, a movie that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 14, 2024.
