Izvestia military observer Oleksiy Ramm refuted the fake information of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) about the equipment of the Russian military and the alleged “inappropriateness” of pencils, compasses and textbooks in their field bags.

Earlier, a video appeared on the Web in which nationalists ridiculed the field bag of Russian officers.

“Laughter in this case is inappropriate. A field or officer’s bag is needed to store working documents, maps, stationery, etc.,” the expert said.

According to him, in combat conditions, the map becomes the main working document of the commander, since the location of his own and enemy units is marked on it. With the help of it, the actions of the unit are also planned.

“The same compass will help determine the direction of movement,” Ramm emphasized, noting that satellite navigators can be turned off in combat conditions.

Field bags are in the armies of many countries of the world, including France, Great Britain and the United States, he concluded.

Earlier on Thursday, the State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation on March 3 approved an amendment introducing criminal liability, up to imprisonment for up to 15 years, for spreading fakes about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.

The draft amendments to the Russian Criminal Code on punishment of up to 15 years in prison for disseminating misinformation about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in military operations were submitted to the State Duma on March 2. It is expected that this bill, together with amendments, will be adopted in all three readings at the next meetings of the State Duma, which will be held on March 4, 9 and 10.

On March 1, Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safe Internet League, member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on the development of the information community, media and mass communications, said that about 1.3 million fake publications about events in Ukraine and Donbass appeared on the Web.

The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17, 2022. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), granting the requests of their regions. Also, agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance were signed with the republics.

On February 24, the President of Russia announced the launch of an operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. After that, the President of Ukraine accused Russia of hitting the country’s military infrastructure and introduced martial law throughout Ukraine. He also said that Kyiv is breaking off diplomatic relations with Moscow.

Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, Kyiv blames Moscow for the current situation. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict.
