jpnn.com – Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Atnike Nova Sigiro asked law enforcement officials to investigate the case of forced disbandment of discussion activities at a hotel in Kemang, South Jakarta on Saturday morning (28/9/2024).

In a video that went viral on social media, a group of unknown people with dark skin carried out anarchistic actions when breaking up the discussion, even though the police were there.

“Komnas HAM encourages law enforcement. Apart from that, we hope that the government, especially through law enforcement officials, will protect the space for civil liberties,” said Atnike when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Saturday.

Atnike explained that Komnas HAM deeply regrets the deprivation of civil rights and intimidating actions during the discussion, as recorded in the video that has been circulating on social media.

According to him, this should no longer happen because the government is obliged to guarantee and protect people’s rights to peaceful assembly and expression.

Therefore, Komnas HAM will further investigate the disbandment incident to find out the cause of the incident.

After that, Komnas HAM will continue to push for this case to be handled legally.

“Komnas HAM is still monitoring and collecting information regarding this incident,” said Atnike.

Komnas HAM spoke about the case of a discussion event in Kemang which was attended by Din Syamsudin and Refy Harun, which was forcibly disbanded by a group of people.
