The wedding of Theodora of Greece and Matthew Kumar had to be postponed twice. Now the two were finally able to say yes.
Princess Theodora of Greece and her partner Matthew Kumar have reportedly been dating since 2016. Accordingly, the two met in Los Angeles, the 41-year-old’s adopted home. Princess Theodora is the daughter of the late King Constantine II of Greece and his widow Anne-Marie of Denmark.
In 2018, Princess Theodora of Greece surprised her fans with good news: she and US lawyer Matthew Kumar are taking the next step. The noblewoman announced this on her Instagram profile: “Words cannot express our happiness and excitement. I can hardly wait to marry this wonderful man,” she explained. But Theodora actually had to be patient until she could say yes to her partner – six years later the time had come.
On Saturday, September 28th, Princess Theodora of Greece and Matthew Kumar walked down the aisle. The Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Athens. This location has a special meaning for the royal family: Theodora’s parents also exchanged vows there almost 60 years ago.
Princess Theodora wore an opulent wedding dress with a lush skirt and a long train. The 41-year-old set accents with her look with fine lace, elaborate embroidery and a shoulder-free cut. Her styling was crowned by the historical tiara of the Khedive of Egypt, which was designed by Cartier in 1905. The piece of jewelry in a laurel wreath design is decorated with diamonds and platinum. The groom paired a black suit with a white shirt, a dark green vest and a patterned tie.
The newlyweds prepared for the wedding for almost six years. Her walk to the altar had to be postponed twice: in 2020 due to the corona pandemic, and in 2023 as a result of the death of her father Constantine II of Greece.
On her big day, Princess Theodora was able to count on the support of her family: numerous relatives were involved in the ceremony. Her brothers Crown Prince Pavlos and Prince Phillipos as well as her nephew Achilleas-Andreas acted as witnesses. Her nieces Maria-Olympia and Arrietta Morales de Grecia, however, took on the roles of bridesmaids.
