It has already been reported that at the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympic Games, Krūmiņas threw the javelin in the F-55 group at a new Olympic record distance of 24.99 meters, winning the competition, but before that he took fourth place in the discus throw in the same medical group with a result of 24.31 meters.
“I look back on the games and what I achieved, mostly positive, but there is some bitterness about throwing the discus. I had every chance to reach the podium, but sometimes an athlete needs to get a little slap in order to achieve even better results in the next competition,” says the para-athlete, adding that she herself is very demanding.
Krūmiņa emphasizes that during the competition, the support of the family and those closest to her, the coach and physiotherapist, and everyone who kept their thumbs on the TV screens was important.
At the moment, the para-athlete has a little respite, although she has already resumed training in preparation for next year’s world championships, which will be held next year in Cali, Colombia.
“There are four years ahead of me, the next Paralympic Games, but I don’t intend to run ahead of events – let’s take small steps,” says the Paralympic champion.
“I never talk about goals before the competition – let’s go to the competition and then we’ll see what will happen. The competition shows what has been done before,” says the para-athlete, adding that right now you can rest a little, but you shouldn’t do it for too long, because a bigger break will pay off later .
“I’m currently allowing myself to indulge a little – go somewhere tastier to eat, eat a burger, fries, but only a little, within the limits of the norm,” admits Diana, who most often chooses pasta and rice with juicy chicken during the competition and thinks about her menu all year round .
Thinking about the future, Krūmiņa has started studying sports pedagogy, listening to what her family says.
“Sporting is not forever. You donate your body and you don’t know how long you will be able to continue doing it,” reminds the para-athlete.
“My future goal is to become a coach, so that I can raise future athletes with my experience,” says Krūmiņa, who wants to pass on to others what the “Latvian Paralympic Committee and the people of Latvia” have given her.
Also looking back at the Paris Paralympic Games, she emphasizes that an important goal was to make people familiar with para sports.
“I can say that it is my biggest victory,” says the para-athlete.
Krūmiņa was one of the Latvian flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games.
In addition to the gold medal in Paris, she also won a gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 and a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, as well as a bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games and a silver medal in Tokyo in the discus throw.
Krumiņa is also a five-time world para-athletic champion in javelin, discus and shot put.
