“This strategic initiative aims to create an Atlantic area of ​​stability and prosperity, capable of responding to the challenges of food, water and energy insecurity,” declared Ms. Benkhair during the debates which followed the presentation of the “Report on peace and security in Africa” ​​as part of the 3rd ordinary session of the 6th legislature of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).

She added that this large-scale project was launched by Morocco to strengthen cooperation, stability and economic development in the region, through the improvement of logistical mechanisms facilitating trade between African countries and economic growth.

“Morocco is committed to continuing cooperation with African countries in strengthening skills and exchanging best practices, in accordance with the African Union (AU) Agenda 2036 and the United Nations Development Goals sustainable,” she argued.

Likewise, Ms. Benkhair stressed the importance of confronting the security challenges that threaten the continent by adopting a global and multidimensional approach, which takes into consideration the needs of populations in terms of employment and the fight against precariousness.

The other interventions highlighted that over the last two decades, conflicts in Africa have taken on a very worrying scale, with disastrous consequences on the living conditions of the continent’s populations.

Speakers noted that the main causes of conflicts in Africa are linked to factors such as ineffective management of the economic system, increasing youth unemployment, exacerbation of poverty and failure to meet social needs. basic.

In this regard, the Afro-deputies emphasized the need to strengthen good governance and socio-economic development, as being essential conditions for the consecration of peace and security in Africa.

They also called for increased efforts to strengthen democracy and the rule of law on the continent, promote education and professional training for young people, strengthen national unity and combat all forms of corruption.

The Pan-African Parliament is a consultative assembly of the African Union which brings together deputies from member countries of the African Union. It was established under Article 5 of the Constitutive Act of the AU and officially installed on March 18, 2004.

Each member state is represented within the PAP by five parliamentarians from the majority and the opposition, including at least one woman, elected or designated by their national parliaments or legislative bodies.
