President Daniel Noboa inaugurated the new Intercultural Market of the Town of Chibuleo in Tungurahua, a province located in the Sierra Centro of Ecuador.
This market is part of the Tungurahua Plazas and Markets Network and was financed by the Development Bank of Ecuador (BDE) with an investment of 2.9 million dollars. The infrastructure covers 13,482 m² and has 280 strategically distributed jobs.
Of these, 182 stalls are intended for the marketing of various products, while 98 stalls form a platform for the sale of minor and major species. In addition, the market includes parking areas for 122 light vehicles, 32 heavy vehicles and 14 motorcycles.
The market will not only benefit Chibuleo’s 150 local merchants, but is also expected to be a space to host productive fairs involving more than 400 entrepreneurs. In the words of President Noboa, this initiative strengthens the cultural roots of Ecuador by promoting the exchange of products and preserving centuries-old food traditions.
The Government highlights that this work will promote fair and sustainable trade, strengthening the social and community fabric of the region. In addition, it is expected to boost the rural economy for the benefit of more than 22,662 local producers.
Tránsito Manobanda, one of the beneficiaries of the market, expressed her joy at the completion of this long-awaited work, highlighting that it will transform the lives of those who work in the agricultural sector. For her part, Diana Caiza, mayor of Ambato, emphasized that this infrastructure will significantly boost the local economy.
Carlos Rivera, general manager of the BDE, stressed the importance of this collaboration between the central government and the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD), highlighting that the Chibuleo Intercultural Market is an example of what can be achieved with joint work.
