Suddenly, I, my father and my brother are we have become caregivers, a term I didn’t know before, it’s someone who takes care.” Alessandra Tripoli, one of the testimonials of the ‘Frecciarosa’ campaign, spoke about her personal experience, speaking at the press conference to present the project promoted by the IncontraDonna Foundation and Ferrovie dello Stato.
When an advanced lung tumor was discovered, continued the dancer of Sicilian origins and teacher of Dancing with the Stars, “my mother was diagnosed with just a few months to live, but thanks to a treatment that until a few months ago did not exist, he had the opportunity to live another 16 months. Sixteen months of love, hugs and necessary words. I say this because, even if the tumor is still scary, the medicine is moving forward.” In those months, Alessandra learned “to give injections, to measure oxygenation and pressure, but in the middle there was always fear”. Mom died a year and a half ago. Today he defines himself as “a new person” and adds: “I want to be here, because we have a weapon, which must be used in time. And it is prevention.
I hope that through initiatives like this, many families can tell another story, a story full of hope.”
Thanks to the Frecciarosa volunteers, “last year there were 20 thousand travelers intercepted, 1,540 on-board oncology consultations, 500 stops made throughout the territory and 16,000 prevention handbooks distributed: the objective for 2024 is even higher numbers “, specified the president of IncontraDonna, Adriana Bonifacino. Adherence to cancer screening among women is still very low, equal to 30% at a national level, with very different percentages between regions.
“A dramatic and sad fact. To raise that bar, as the Ministry of Health – said Maria Rosaria Campitiello, head of the Prevention Department – we must improve communication and find the right way to explain its importance”. (HANDLE).
