(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, SEPTEMBER 30 – The Bologna Local Health Authority launches the single list for general surgery operations throughout its territory. The innovative system of redistribution of operations between the operational units of the Department of General Surgery will make it possible to cut waiting times for citizens by “at least 15%” and increase efficiency and territorial equity. The hospitals involved are Maggiore, Bentivoglio, Porretta and San Giovanni in Persiceto.
The project envisages a unified collection system for the demand for interventions, which will then be divided by pathology and organized according to a score that expresses the priority value based on the urgency and waiting time. The operations will then be redistributed between the various general surgery operating units in all the operating rooms of the hospitals of the Bologna Local Health Authority.
“This means that we will reduce the waiting times for medium and low complexity surgery by at least 15%”, assures the regional councilor for health policies, Raffaele Donini. “At the end of the year we will evaluate the benefit of the 30 million euros allocated by the Region to produce 1.6 million more services in 2024 compared to last year for specialist and diagnostics. In Bologna and at regional level the results are becoming grasping – he adds – also because we are deploying all of them to reduce waiting times for services”.
“We aim to pool our surgeries which today are organized autonomously in the area – explains the general manager of the Bologna local health authority, Paolo Bordon – from today for the same type of surgical problem, in particular of medium or low complexity, we will give the possibility for citizens to access more surgical platforms in a more equitable manner” and at the same time we will be able to “increase the operating room hours available” and reduce the number of operations postponed due to Covid.
“For the patient, this model represents the maximum of fairness”, assures Vincenzo Cennamo, director of the Department of General Surgery of the Local Health Authority of Bologna.
