jpnn.com – Qualcomm is reportedly interested in taking over Intel, a competing company whose business is in decline.
According to a new report by The Wall Street Journal, the San Diego semiconductor company expressed interest in taking over Intel.
The report said that such a deal was “far from certain”, but if it did occur it could cause major upheaval in the US chip industry.
Additionally, it raises questions about violations of antitrust rules.
Reports regarding Qualcomm’s interest in acquiring Intel underscore how much Intel’s business has slumped in the past year.
Intel last month announced plans to cut 15,000 jobs, as its quarterly loss increased to USD 1.6 billion.
Intel declined requests to respond to reports regarding Qualcomm’s interest in taking over its business.
Qualcomm also did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (engadget/ant/jpnn)
