jpnn.comJAKARTA – The family suspects that the death of Sri Erni Juniarti (40), a migrant worker from Cimaja Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, died in Syria due to physical abuse or abuse by her employer.
“Before it was reported that she had died by officers from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) Damascus, Syria, Sri called me and admitted that she had been tortured by her employer,” said the victim’s nephew, Bambang Permadi, in Sukabumi, Saturday.
On Saturday (14/9) evening Indonesian time, he admitted that Sri called him and told him about his condition at that time, claiming that he had just experienced torture by his employer.
Based on the victim’s account, because of a small mistake he made, his employer hit the foreign exchange hero on the head with a pan until he bled.
Even worse, with her head suffering from open wounds and bleeding, Sri admitted that she was not taken for treatment, instead she was forced to continue working. Due to fear of experiencing violence again, Sri was forced to obey her employer’s orders even though her health continued to decline.
It is alleged that Sri was often tortured by her employer, but she never talked about the bitterness of her life while migrating to Syria because she was afraid that her family, especially her husband and three children who were in her hometown, would worry.
“It turned out that Saturday night was the last day we chatted and the last time we heard his voice. Five days later, on Thursday (19/9), we received information from officers from the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus that Sri had died as a result of a work accident,” he added.
Bambang said that the Indonesian Embassy officer who provided the information stated that Sri’s death was due to falling from the stairs and her head was seriously injured and there was even bleeding on the brain.
An Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) named Sri Erni Juniarti died in Syria. He is suspected of being a victim of abuse.
