The wave of resignations among the Green Youth is growing. Now the fifth leadership of the association is turning its back on the party.
The board of the Green Youth Schleswig-Holstein has almost unanimously declared its departure from the party. Seven of the eight members of the current state executive board and three of the previous leadership have decided to take this step, said state spokeswoman Katharina Kewitz on Sunday.
It is the fifth state board following the departure of the youth organization’s federal board from the party last Wednesday. The leaders of the Green Youth in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia had previously made such a decision.
Regarding her motives, Kewitz said: “I’m leaving the Green Party because they are not prepared to take on the rich and corporations in order to fundamentally change social conditions.” State spokesman Lars Brommann explained: “What we are fighting for cannot be achieved in this place. Instead, the party is supporting cuts in social benefits and tightening of asylum laws, thus promoting social division.”
