Sports practice: An exemplary commitment of the OCS in favor of people with disabilities

by times news cr

It is in this sense that the city of Safi, proud of its local club and its performances, has the merit of serving as a “cradle” for a unique experience in promoting sports among people with specific needs, through the OCS for people with disabilities, a real nursery for young budding talents.

Otherwise, the OCS Club for people with disabilities can pride itself on being an eloquent model of dynamic Moroccan clubs, those which continue to place at the heart of their priorities, very promising young talents in several sporting disciplines and this, despite the persistence of certain difficulties inherent to the lack of sponsorship or sufficient financial resources.

The OCS Club for people with disabilities has been a section affiliated with OCS-Omnisport since the summer of 2019, the date of its creation. An affiliation with the “father” Safiote Club so beneficial and even essential in terms of financial support and notoriety, for a young section determined to take big steps to make the practice of sports possible, particularly for this social category.

The originality and singularity of the OCS for people with disabilities lies in the fact that this Club has a collection of champions and young practitioners in more than 8 sporting disciplines, namely: basketball on wheelchairs, tennis on wheelchairs, swimming, para-athletics, athletic strength or powerlifting, boccia (a ball sport related to pétanque), amputee football, deaf football and table tennis, explained Mr. Choaib El Garrai, treasurer of the section, in a statement to MAP.

Mr. El Garrai noted that the athletes affiliated with the section train almost daily, rejoicing that this serious work has borne fruit with very satisfactory results and the emergence of young champions who are so talented and confirmed at the assets of the Club.

In this context, he cited, with so much joy and pride, the Paralympic coronation and the gold medal of Moroccan disabled sports athlete Azzedine Nouiri in London and Rio de Janeiro in the shot put event and the 3rd place for athlete Abdelhadi Harti, in the Marathon event as part of the World Championship in London in 2019.

This champion is also qualified for the Paralympic Games planned for Tokyo in 2021, he reminded.

For her part, champion Saida Amoudi managed to take 2nd place for the women’s f34 shot put at the Disabled World Championships in Dubai, he continued.

Mr. El Garrai also indicated that out of a total of 8 Moroccan champions qualified for the Tokyo 2021 Para-Athletics Games, 3 are from the OCS, or almost a third of the Moroccan selection.

Note that these budding champions have entered a preparation and concentration course with the national team at the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled in Salé.

These are very encouraging results for a club created barely two years ago, he rejoiced, recognizing, however, that the football section of Club OCS captures the attention of Safiote supporters and monopolizes the greatest part of the financial support of the sports club and the elected councils.

In this context, he estimated that the club aspires to attract sponsors, capable of providing substantial assistance to raise the level of athletes with specific needs and help achieve the objectives set by the governing body of the said section.

Mr. El Garrai did not fail to note that around thirty young people with specific needs have joined the Club given the national reputation it has acquired thanks to the very encouraging results achieved by adult athletes.

Affiliated with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities, the OCS Club for people with disabilities has 51 affiliated members, including 42 athletes, 5 administrators, 3 technicians and 1 doctor, we recall.
