A concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the world famous musician, conductor and violinist, a native of Baku, took place in the Hall of Chamber and Organ Music (Kirch) of the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Dmitry Sitkovetskyreports Day.Az.
Under the leadership of the Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, conductor Fuada Ibrahimovaaccompanied by the Baku Chamber Orchestra (artistic director – People’s Artist of the USSR Farhad Badalbeyli), soloist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky (violin), as well as soloists Boris Garlitsky (violin) and Yulia Sitkovetskaya (soprano) presented the audience with works by world classics.

Dmitry Sitkovetsky born on September 27, 1954 in Baku into a family of musicians. Grandfather Grigory Sitkovetsky was a music teacher. Grandmother – Lyusya Ratner, Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR, concertmaster of the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater named after M.F. Akhundova. Parents are outstanding musicians – violinist Yulian Sitkovetsky and pianist Bella Davidovich, who deservedly received world fame and recognition. Already at the age of 12 he became the winner of the first youth competition “Concertino Prague”. Studied at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. In 1977 he emigrated to the USA, where two months later he gave his first concert. Graduated from the Juilliard School in New York. An important stage in the musician’s creative biography was the victory in 1979 in the prestigious Kreisler violin competition, held in Vienna. Subsequently, the musician gave many concerts in the USA and Europe, first as a violinist, and from the mid-90s as a conductor, and also headed music festivals and competitions. The repertoire includes works by Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and modern composers. Author of a number of transcriptions for string orchestra and string ensembles. From 1996 to 2001 he was chief conductor of the National Orchestra of Northern Ireland and founded the New European Strings session orchestra. In 2002-2005, Sitkovetsky was the main guest conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia named after Svetlanov. He has lived in London for 30 years.
