Goheung-gun takes a powerful leap forward as the center of the cutting-edge aviation industry!

Goheung-gun is taking a powerful leap forward as the center of the cutting-edge aviation industry. Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) is making every effort to create an ecosystem to lead the cutting-edge aviation industry. By adding state-of-the-art aviation industry infrastructure to the nation’s best aviation infrastructure, including a flight test airspace measuring 22km in diameter, the National Comprehensive Flight Performance Test Center, and a drone center, a full-cycle system from research and development > manufacturing > testing and evaluation > certification has been established. I plan to do it.

First, the military took the first step toward manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles by starting construction of the ‘Unmanned Aerial Agricultural Technology Specialized Agricultural and Industrial Complex’ last June. By 2026, a total project cost of 12.8 billion won will be spent to create an agricultural and industrial complex measuring 40,000 pyeong in the Goheung Bay area. Once the complex is built, it is expected to serve as a base for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles in the region along with the existing research facilities, the Aviation Center and the Drone Center.

The military is also accelerating the construction of infrastructure for testing, evaluation, and certification of advanced aircraft. Last May, two projects, including ▲ establishment of an evaluation basis for an electric propulsion system for eco-friendly aircraft, and ▲ establishment of a flight monitoring system to improve the safety and increase usability of the flight test site, were selected for the industrial innovation infrastructure establishment project hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and received 20 billion won in national funds. It has been secured.

The ‘Eco-friendly Aircraft Electric Propulsion System Evaluation Base Construction Project’ is a project to build an evaluation center and equipment for testing, evaluation, and certification of parts used in electric aircraft. A total project cost of 19.6 billion won will be invested by 2028 to be built within an agricultural and industrial complex specializing in unmanned aerial farming technology, and will perform the function of evaluating and certifying the durability and safety of high-performance batteries and motors for aircraft.

Once the center is built, related companies will visit Goheung to evaluate and certify the performance of core components of electric-powered aircraft, and it is expected that business attraction and investment will gain momentum.

The ‘Flight Monitoring System Construction Project to Improve Flight Test Site Safety and Increase Usability’ is a project to establish a safe flight test environment at the National Comprehensive Flight Test Center located in Goheung Bay. A total project cost of 14.3 billion won will be invested by 2028 to create facilities and equipment that can control the flight of multiple aircraft.

Until now, the National Comprehensive Flight Performance Test Center has had a 1.2km runway, a 700m light aircraft takeoff and landing pad, and the K-UAM Grand Challenge demonstration facility, but the aircraft takeoff and landing process was conducted using a visual flight method (non-instrument approach) that relies on the pilot’s visual eyes and judgment. Therefore, it was not possible to operate three facilities at the same time.

Once this project is completed, the scope of operation of the flight test site is expected to expand as everything from ultra-light aircraft (drones) to cutting-edge aircraft can be viewed at a glance through monitoring facilities. The average waiting time for flight tests is expected to be reduced by about half to 2 to 4 weeks, and the number of annual flight tests will be 1,000 and the number of visitors will be more than 30,000, which is expected to increase more than three times compared to before. The county anticipates that this effect will also have a positive impact on the local economy.

County Governor Gong Young-min said, “The aviation industry, including drones and UAM, is one of Goheung-gun’s three future strategic businesses, and is a business we are actively fostering to achieve Goheung’s population of 100,000 by 2030.” He added, “Leading domestic and foreign aviation companies are looking for Goheung and investing in it. “We will pour all our capabilities into becoming the region’s future food industry,” he said.

Goheung-gun is working hard to expand infrastructure to dominate the high-tech aviation industry, while also working to expand its base by holding various events such as the Goheung Drone/UAM Expo and the Nokdong Port Drone Show.
