Goalkeeper errors on both sides, high defensive lines, and quick counterattacks contributed to an exciting encounter with French forward Georginio Rutter, putting the visitors ahead in the seventh minute before Palmer’s hat-trick.

Carlos Baleba scored for Brighton in the 32nd minute after a second mistake by Robert Sanchez, the former Brighton goalkeeper, before Palmer scored his fourth just before halftime with a perfect assist from Jadon Sancho.
The unstoppable Palmer, who also hit the post in the first half and squandered a great chance in front of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the second half, became the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League match.
The Chelsea reached 13 points and now waits for the remainder of the round to see if it will remain in the standings for the next Champions League. Brighton experienced its first defeat in the Premier League and remains stalled at nine points.
