The Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago once again slammed the door on the defense of the general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, to delay its formalization, which is scheduled for next October 1.

The senior officer’s lawyers had requested a postponement of the hearing to file charges, where he will be charged with illegitimate coercion during the past social outbreak, but It was rejected since “no new history is indicated.”

This would occur just weeks before Yáñez retires, which will take place on November 19, one of the reasons for seeking to postpone the hearing and thus not step aside.

In this regard, the current deputy director of Carabineros, Marcelo Araya, told 24 Horas about the expected resignation of his superior, indicating that “he is going to communicate it. Within the frankness and sincerity that has characterized him, General Yáñez will communicate it once he makes the decision and has to discuss it with the President of the Republic.”

Along these lines, he specified that General Yáñez “is very calm and, as he has said, he is working until the last minute, because it is what corresponds, it is his constitutional obligation.”

“He is our general director of the institution and he tells us to continue working, to continue functioning because the higher goal is another,” General Araya stressed.
