A HS suspect who was suspected of making hate speech via social media was finally arrested by Jember Police, as stated at a press conference at Jember Police Headquarters, Tuesday (1/10/2024). ANTARA/Zumrotun Solichah.

jpnn.comJEMBER – Police officers arrested the perpetrator of hate speech related to ethnic, religious, racial and inter-group (SARA) issues with the initials HS (55) which was spread via social media.

“The suspect HS, a resident of Jember Kidul Village, Kaliwates District, is strongly suspected of having spread posts regarding SARA issues through several of his social media accounts,” said Jember Police Chief AKBP Bayu Pratama Gubunagi, Tuesday.

According to him, investigators have also identified around 17 social media accounts managed by the suspect and many of the posts on these accounts contain hate speech, slander, defamation and other content that has the potential to disrupt the stability of security and public order (kamtibmas).

“From the results of the investigation, it was discovered that the majority of content uploaded through these accounts caused unrest among the public, one of which was an account with the name Melly Itoe Angie,” he explained.

The perpetrator’s method of carrying out his actions was to use the Facebook account “Melly Itoe Angie” and make two posts calling NU people stupid and GP Ansor members corrupt, so that this could trigger conflict.

“One of the things that is of particular concern is content that attacks the largest Islamic community organizations (ormas) in Indonesia. If not handled immediately, this content can trigger conflict and division in society.

Bayu said that the Jember Police had carried out forensic laboratory tests to ensure that the evidence confiscated was indeed related to the crime committed by the suspect, as well as expert witness statements that had been obtained to confirm whether the posts met the elements of a criminal act in accordance with the ITE Law.

Even though only one account has been processed by law, namely the “Melly Itoe Angie” account, the police are continuing to investigate 17 fictitious accounts managed by the suspect.
