Iran launches large-scale attack on Israel with over 180 missiles
As Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on Israel, U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris condemned the attack, calling it “reckless and shameless.”
According to the Times of Israel on the 1st (local time), candidate Harris issued a statement saying that she supported the decision to order the U.S. military to shoot down Iranian missiles targeting Israel.
Candidate Harris said, “Israel was able to repel this attack with our help,” and evaluated that the joint defense between the two countries helped save many innocent lives.
“Israel will always have the ability to defend itself against Iran and Iranian-backed terrorist militias,” he said, adding, “My commitment to Israel’s security remains unwavering.”
He also condemned, “Iran is a threat not only to Israel, but also to Americans in the region, to American interests, and to innocent civilians in the region who suffer from terrorist proxies based and supported by Iran.”
“We will not hesitate to take any action necessary to defend U.S. troops and interests against Iran and Iranian-backed terrorists,” he said. “We will work with our allies and partners to disrupt and hold Iran accountable for its aggressive actions.” “We will continue to work hard,” he emphasized.
Iran launched about 180 missiles toward Israel that night. It has been two months since Hamas leader Ismail Haniya was assassinated by Israel in Tehran, the Iranian capital, in late July.
The Israeli military announced that it intercepted most of the Iranian attacks with its air defense system. Some hit central and southern Israel, and one school was damaged by a missile.
In the West Bank, a Palestinian man was killed by missile fragments. In Israel, two people suffered minor injuries from shrapnel.
Candidate Harris watched the proceedings directly with President Joe Biden in the White House situation room that day.
