Thomas Gottschalk admits that he has been suffering from physical limitations for some time. However, as usual, he takes the whole thing with humor.
Thomas Gottschalk has been advertising for a hearing aid provider for five years. “Hey, life is calling,” shouts Gottschalk in the latest commercial, hanging from a paragliding parachute. “Do you hear it?” Apparently he no longer hears every time life calls. Or his wife Karina, as the 74-year-old now told the “Bild” newspaper.
“When we watch TV together, she always says, ‘You always do it so loudly,'” said Gottschalk. However, he didn’t notice that. “That annoyed and bothered me. This different perception.”
The “Wetten Dass..?” presenter’s hearing has apparently deteriorated in recent years. After his advertising deal with a hearing aid manufacturer in 2019, the TV presenter announced that he did not need a hearing aid himself, but that has now changed. Now he depends on the technology himself.
The entertainer takes the fact that age doesn’t leave him unscathed with humor. “I always listen to Karina because it serves me well,” he said. And further: “I see everything that I’m not allowed to see. But I don’t hear everything that I’m not allowed to hear. That makes me nervous. I always have to know what’s going on and what’s going on.”
However, the TV legend also admits that the physical limitation is something that one should accept. He promotes understanding for people with hearing impairments. “You don’t notice it yourself, you always think you’re great. You hear well, you see well, you look good. But that is not always a reflection of reality. Now I no longer have a problem admitting that I have a shortcoming. “More people have that than you think,” said Gottschalk to “Bild”.
