The Libyan People’s Voice Party denounced the clear selectivity adopted by Western countries and international organizations in using the term “human trafficking,” considering that this term is used in a politicized manner to advance certain agendas, especially in the context of illegal immigration.

The party said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Eye Libya, that it believes that human trafficking is excessively linked to the smuggling of illegal immigrants from the countries of the South to the countries of the North, with deliberate disregard for the serious violations to which these immigrants are exposed after their arrival in the countries of destination, while Western political and media discourses focus on smugglers in source and transit countries, and these countries overlook the horrific conditions that migrants live in their countries under exploitation by employers, in conditions that are close to modern slavery.

The statement pointed out that the human rights violations and sexual and labor exploitation that migrants suffer in destination countries are more severe than the smuggling operations themselves.

The party stressed that this type of modern slavery is no less horrific than traditional slavery, as migrants are forced to work in inhumane conditions, under the threat of deportation or harsh penalties.

The Libyan People’s Voice Party called on the international community to deal fairly with this issue, and to stop using the term “human trafficking” as a political tool to demonize the countries of the South, while turning a blind eye to the violations that migrants are exposed to in Western countries, and stressed that it must be There is comprehensive recognition of all aspects of human trafficking, including exploitation, which occurs in major industrialized countries.

The party concluded its statement by stressing the need to open a frank international dialogue on human trafficking that puts the rights of migrants at the top of priorities, away from double standards and deliberate politicization.
