With the support of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan and within the framework of the project “Propaganda of our national-cultural heritage” in an influential newspaper of Georgia “Republic of Sakartvela” an article was published entitled “Shusha – the cradle of Azerbaijani culture”.
As the State Committee reported to Day.Az on Thursday, the article noted that Shusha, founded in the mid-18th century by the Karabakh Khan Panahali Khan, became one of the most important cities in Azerbaijan. At first, this settlement was called “Panakhabad” in honor of Panahali Khan, and after some time – “Shushi Fortress” and “Shusha City”.
It was emphasized that in Shusha, which became the musical center of the Caucasus at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries, “Khary Bulbul” was growing, and the capital of the Karabakh Khanate Shusha was called “little Paris”, “temple of arts of the Caucasus”, “cradle of Azerbaijani music” and “conservatory East”.
It was also noted that thanks to the great work of the brilliant composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the foundations of professional music education were laid in Shusha for the first time in Azerbaijan.
The newspaper also talks about the occupation of the city of Shusha by Armenia and its liberation from occupation by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan in 2020.
The article also mentions that according to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated May 7, 2021, in order to restore the historical appearance of the city, return it to its former glory and reunite with traditional full-fledged cultural life, as well as promote it internationally as a bright pearl of centuries-old rich culture , architecture and urban art of Azerbaijan, Shusha was declared the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
