In constant evolution in the face of competition, WhatsApp is equipping itself with new features to customize and add “a touch of originality” to video calls. On its blog, the instant messaging app announced the launch of filters and backgrounds to make video conversations “fun and creative,” in its own words. Intended to “help create a more friendly atmosphere,” the filters and backgrounds are available in ten different options. WhatsApp specifies that it is possible to try many combinations by mixing the different layers.
Regarding the filters, the user will have the choice from the following list: warm, cold, black and white, spotlight, dreamlike, light prism, fisheye, vintage TV, frosted glass, and bicolored. As for the backgrounds, which also provide a layer of privacy by masking elements behind the user, the choices include: blur, living room, office, café, pebbles, treats, spotted, beach, sunset, celebration, and forest.
WhatsApp specifies that these new effects, which had already appeared in the beta version of the app, will be gradually rolled out “in the coming weeks” to all users. They can be added during a video call by tapping the effects icon in the top right corner of the screen.
