The Superior Council of the Judiciary has organized the National Conversation on Justice and Peace, which will be held next Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4 in the city of Villavicencio, Meta. Under the motto “Justice and Peace is not an experiment, it is a reference”, this academic event seeks to highlight the achievements, challenges and challenges in the implementation of Law 975 of 2005, known as the Justice and Peace Law.
The meeting will be led by Jorge Enrique Vallejo Jaramillo, vice president of the Corporation, who will be in charge of moderating debates around key issues related to transitional justice in Colombia. One of the main axes will be the space called “Dialogues from the heart: reflections from the perspective of the victims”, a forum that aims to give a voice to those who have been affected by the internal armed conflict and put their rights to the foreground. truth, justice and reparation.
A reference in search of peace
The Justice and Peace Law aims to facilitate the demobilization and reintegration of members of illegal armed groups, ensuring that victims are not only heard, but also receive fair reparations. The norm was key in the peace processes that began in the 2000s, and continues to be a reference in the search for peace and reconciliation in Colombia.
In addition to the reflections from the victims, the conversation will include discussions on highly relevant topics such as the challenges to clarify corporate responsibility in the armed conflict, the lessons learned in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and the progress made in investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The event will feature the participation of magistrates from the Justice and Peace chambers of Bogotá, Barranquilla and Medellín, as well as experts in Human Rights and IHL. This meeting is emerging as a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences that allow strengthening judicial processes and guaranteeing the rights of victims within the framework of transitional justice.
What is Justice and Peace?
The Justice and Peace Jurisdiction is a judicial mechanism created by Law 975 of 2005, which aims to judge those responsible for crimes committed within the framework of the Colombian armed conflict, with emphasis on serious crimes such as massacres, forced displacements and disappearances. forced.
