Oristano The city rallied around the family of Antonello Gallus, the doctor who was everyone’s friend and responsible for the simple structure of local radiology, who died on Monday 1 October due to an illness. Upon the arrival of the coffin, in the Cathedral packed with many people who had come from Borore, his hometown, and from Nuoro, the city where he worked in the Zonchello hospital, the emotion became palpable. The body, accompanied by his wife Lucia and his children Enrico and Elia, was welcomed by the notes of the Ave Maria in Catalan performed by the Maurizio Carta Choir, of which Antonello Gallus was president and presenter numerous times. «Today the church remembers the figure of the Guardian Angel – said Monsignor Alessandro Floris in the homily – and Antonello, who saved many lives with his work and his professionalism, was a guardian angel for many because he did the well, making himself small despite his studies and the role he played, to serve his brothers in difficulty. His sudden death must make everyone reflect: life is a breath. Living it in the best possible way by doing good, as Antonello did, certainly represents the right path to follow, because everything we do on this earth is recorded in Heaven.”

The Medical Association writes: «We want to remember Antonello for his behavior as a doctor in the exercise of his profession but also outside of it, where he always strictly respected the principles and rules inherent in the code of ethics in relationships with colleagues, with patients and with institutions. We cannot fail to highlight that his choice was determined by a vocational spirit which finds its highest expression in medicine and is based on respect for life and profession. His passing saddened the entire medical and dental community in the province.” Graduated in Sassari and specialized in the same university with Professor Giulio Cesare Canalis, initially enrolled in the Medical Association of the province of Nuoro and from 2001 in that of the province of Oristano, he practiced the profession of radiologist initially at the Madonna del Rimedio nursing home , in collaboration with doctor Maurizio Picciau and other colleagues who worked in both the medical and surgical departments: doctors Efisio Marras, Domenico Giordano, Bruno Cadeddu, Pierluigi Pibi, Vincenzo Pecoraro, Vladimiro Serpi, Franco Ledda, Giorgio Chiarelli and Nanni Scano; moreover, already from that period he collaborated with Dr. Vincenzo Migaleddu, regional president of the ISDE.

At San Martino he worked as an assistant to Dr. Salvatore Pinna and with Dr. Marcello Mocci. For about ten years he had mainly been involved in breast screening and breast care with Dr. Graziella Agus; service for which he was Regional Representative. Gallus was the scientific director of the LILT of Oristano, of which he was provincial vice-president. Committed to social work, he has participated in many charity events in the field of prevention. His passion for music and popular traditions, shared with doctor Tonino Paddeo, also a chorister of Maurizio Carta, directed by maestro Salvatore Saba, ranged in the rhythms of Bossanova, which he performed with mastery together with his medical colleague Andrea Ferrara. Recently, with Antonio Salis and Antonio Sardu, he formed the group Anthony’s Trio, whose musical proposal met with public favor for the choice and refinement of the lyrics. The memory traced by Giulio Fara, president of the Maurizio Carta Choir, underlined by long applause, was very touching.
