After a dry summer, the mushroom harvest also began in Slovakia. On Monday, a four-year-old boy found a record oak mushroom in the forest in Liptov. As father Dominik Hančík described, when they properly measured him at home, they found out that it was a royal catch.
“The boletus weighed a little over two kilograms, the circumference of the hat was 105 centimeters and the diameter of the hat was 40.5 centimeters. And the mushroom was completely healthy,” he told the Slovak newspaper SME.
As soon as little Dominik found a huge mushroom in the forest, he cried out. When his father ran to him, he also screamed. And the coming mother as well.
After the discovery, they first took a good photo of the huge “right-handed person”, then carefully pulled it out and photographed it again. “First we carried the mushroom to our bikes and went looking for more mushrooms. Then we spent about 15 minutes thinking about how to transport it on those bikes. Neither of us had room in our backpacks. So we had to take out all the mushrooms we already had in our backpacks “We gave half of them to a friend we met in the mountains. In the end, he probably fit in the backpack,” explained the father.
“We’ve found beautiful mushrooms before, but never this big. I think it will definitely be one of the biggest in the country,” he said, adding that another 20 oak mushrooms were found on the mushrooms, but none came close to his son’s record find .

Now the record-breaking boletus is already drying at the Hančík home. “When it’s dried, we’ll put it in special jars and give it to family and friends. Of course, we’ll also keep some of it, we’ll put it in the Christmas cabbage pot,” added Dominik Hančík.
The proud father also sent photos of his son’s find to friends and family. “We will frame the picture for my son and he is also looking forward to it being in the newspaper,” concluded the father.
