The police were informed about a noise similar to a gunshot on the street near the embassy on Tuesday at around 18:00 (19:00 Latvian time). The investigation revealed that the embassy was most likely shot with a gun, but the police did not reveal more information yet.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, but there are many CCTV cameras in the area where the embassy is located, and the police are actively collecting and analyzing the footage.
It has already been reported that two explosions took place in the vicinity of the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen at night. Danish police said they were investigating the incident and that no one was injured in the explosions.
Since the October 7 massacre in Israel by the Palestinian terrorist group “Hamas”, during which terrorists murdered almost 1200 people, to which Israel responded with a large-scale military operation in the terrorist-controlled Gaza Strip, several attacks on Israeli interests have taken place in Sweden.
In February, police found a grenade on the grounds of the Israeli embassy, which the ambassador said was an attempted attack. In mid-May, shots were fired outside the Israeli embassy, prompting the country to step up security measures to protect Israel and Jewish institutions.
The Swedish security service SAPO announced in late May that Iran was recruiting gang members from Swedish criminal groups to attack Israeli interests in Sweden. Iran, of course, denies this.
Sweden has also noted an increase in the number of anti-Semitic hate crimes since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.
At the beginning of June, the police announced that a potentially explosive object was found near the offices of the Israeli military technology company “Elbit Systems” in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. The company is known for its drone systems.
