The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks you to treat this call seriously, because in the event of a rapid escalation of the situation, the possibilities for safe evacuation may be difficult.

So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received requests for help from Latvian nationals in connection with last night’s rocket fire by Iran. No questions have been received about the situation in Lebanon during the night either. Currently, trips are not registered in the countries mentioned in the Consular Register.

According to the data of the Directorate of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, 5935 citizens of Latvia have registered their place of residence in Israel. On the other hand, 20 nationals have declared their permanent residence in Lebanon. According to the information at the disposal of the honorary consul of Latvia, there could be around 80 Latvian nationals in Lebanon.

So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received inquiries from three families in Lebanon about possible evacuation flights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains that for the time being departure from the territory of Lebanon is possible by commercial flights, by waterways or by land, therefore the European Union member states do not organize evacuation flights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges citizens to use any options for emigration or, if it is not possible to leave Lebanon, to seek safe places of refuge on the territory of Lebanon in accordance with the instructions of the local authorities. If you need help, including information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites you to contact the Consular Department 24-hour phone number +371 26337711 or contact the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Lebanon by phone +961 3224000.

After the US said it was discussing a joint response with Israel, Iran’s chief of staff warned that Tehran would attack Israeli infrastructure in the event of a retaliatory attack.
