/ Despite being over the age of thirty-eight, the Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo, is still greatly admired in many countries of the world and sparked a political storm that almost threatened the professional future of the mayor of the Japanese city of Nagasaki.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Marca”, the former Real Madrid star unintentionally caused this storm, after it was recently revealed that the mayor of Nagasaki, Kengo Oishi, deliberately missed an important meeting of political leaders in Japan, because of his desire to attend the friendly match that brought together… Between Al-Nassr Saudi Club and Paris Saint-Germain in Osaka on July 25.
Oishi explained that he “paid for the ticket to attend the match from his own pocket,” but the Japanese city government “paid for the travel and accommodation costs.”
The politician apologized for using the event to invite the Portuguese star to participate in future publicity for Nagasaki, although some officials say there was “no response from Ronaldo” to this type of publicity request.
Some politicians and other circles of public opinion are calling for Oishi’s resignation, “for not properly carrying out his duties as a public servant.”
They say he “prioritized his own interests and attended an entertainment event rather than an important official meeting.”
On the other hand, Oishi’s supporters believe that his attempt to gain publicity for Nagasaki was “very beneficial” for the city, and therefore he was “fulfilling his mission as mayor,” according to the newspaper.
